Clogged Pores
Why Do Pores Clog?
Pores are the body’s way of staying clean. Underneath the skin are glands called sebaceous glands. The oil excreted by the sebaceous glands, called sebum, acts like a glue to cling to dead skin cells. The skin cells are then excreted from the body through the pores to help maintain healthy skin.
Sometimes, as the glands expel these dead skin cells, build-up can occur and pores will clog. The gland will continue to produce oil with no way to release the excess. The result is an infection called a pimple or blackhead. There are also times when outside factors can cause blocked pores.
How Do Clogged Pores Affect the Skin?
With severe acne, scarring can be a big problem. Scars are caused when the body tries to heal the infection caused by acne. The result is too much collagen production in the affected area that manifests itself in raised, and sometimes permanently red or pink, scar tissue. One of the main effects of clogged pores is the damaging self-image that facial imperfections can trigger.
What Can You Do?
In most cases, clogged pores on nose and face can be reduced or completely eradicated with the right treatment. When treating clogged pores, it isn’t enough just to wash the top layer of skin. This will only clean the skin superficially and won’t work to remove all of the oils that builds up and clogs pores. Instead, special products and treatments are needed to penetrate deep down into the pores and prevent the build-up of oil and dead skin cells in the first place.
Moisturisers are also very important to a skincare regimen.
Well-balanced skin is the key to achieving a beautiful, blemish-free appearance. Remember, before you start any skincare regimen, you should consult with your doctor so that you can adopt a treatment plan that will be right for your skin type and lifestyle.
